Qualification and experience overview:

Dr Shyamala Hande is a teaching professional with Post-graduation and a Doctorate degree in Biosciences. Committed to teaching medical students, she is actively involved in the academic pursuits of health science programs of Manipal University; she is interested and engaged in medical education research.

Current Position: Shyamala Hande is currently the Deputy Registrar, Academics-Health Sciences, Manipal University; and Professor of Histology at the Melaka Manipal Medical College. She is a CMCLFAIMER Regional Institute faculty since 2012.

Professional Accomplishments: Her academic interests include research in medical education, problem-based learning, developing rubrics, blended learning and digital histology. She is also experienced in ecological research and has completed a certificate course in computing (CIC) from IGNOU. She has presented papers in these areas at national and international conferences and has publications in national and international journals. She has developed rubrics for case designing in problem-based learning and also a feedback rubric for PBL facilitators. She is committed to creating a classroom environment that inspires students, and fosters a love of learning. She is a member of the Academic Senate of Manipal University, member of the PhD core committee, convener of the PhD protocol approval committee of Manipal University and the University representative of the Boards of Studies of health science institutions of Manipal University. She is a resource person for workshops conducted at the Manipal Centre for Professional and Personal Development.
